There is a river back there somewhere, but you wouldn’t know because these nine signs block the view to Oregon’s verdant and scenic Mackenzie. Each sign probably meets a perceived need and solves specific problem, but taken together, all you get is visual clutter — a kind of posted littering. And what once was a well designed simple wooden fence is now just a convenient armature for seemingly random display of mismatched messages, sizes, colors and graphic styles. The overall content is also a problem — the postings tell what you can’t do, what you must do and how to do it. Not one hint of welcome or positive information. This messy grouping of signs provides ironic contradiction to the notion of preserving the natural environment.
