Updating aging streetscapes with new medians, curb cuts, lighting and thematic landscaping is a great way to revitalize a downtown. But attention to detail can make all the difference. Here, in Richfield, Utah, an otherwise well-executed downtown streetscape design is compromised by the use of fake rocks. And, the designer has specified exposed bolts, apparently to keep these hollow plastic rocks from blowing away in the frequent local winds. Ironically, Richfield is well known for the dramatic local rock formations that frame the little town’s western edge.
