In collaboration with the National Park Service, the National Mall signage enhances the visitor experience with intuitive maps, directional signs, and clear pictograms, ensuring seamless navigation through Washington, D.C.’s iconic landmarks.
The National Mall Wayfinding project in Washington, D.C., implemented a cohesive strategy and design for this iconic 400-acre site. Hunt Design crafted a user-friendly map, providing clear and intuitive navigation for visitors exploring the vast array of attractions. Formal pylon-based directional signs were strategically placed, offering consistent guidance throughout the Mall. Pictograms representing 36 museums and monuments enhanced visual communication, ensuring accessibility for a diverse audience. The project involved meticulous coordination with federal agencies, including the Smithsonian Institution, Fine Arts Commission, and the National Park Service, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and cultural significance. This thoughtfully designed system balanced functionality with the historic and aesthetic integrity of one of the nation’s most treasured public spaces.
