Architect: Gruen Associates | Collaborators: Harvest Moon Studios | Photography: Matt Givot

A LEED-certified nature center featuring large-scale interpretive graphics, topographic maps, terrariums, interactives, and artifacts celebrates the rich cultural and natural history at Vasquez Rocks.

Vasquez Rocks Natural Area is a stunning 932-acre park in Los Angeles County, known for its dramatic rock formations and iconic role in the movie industry. Design and interpretive planning for the Nature Center exhibits emphasized sustainability while offering a rich educational experience. Striking supergraphics narrated the park’s diverse flora, fauna, and the cultural heritage of the Tatavium people, immersing visitors in its history. Interactive exhibits included a detailed topographic map, terrarium displays, physical interactives, media presentations, and authentic artifacts, creating a hands-on learning environment. This thoughtfully planned interpretive center blended environmental stewardship with storytelling, enhancing the park’s appeal as both a natural wonder and a cultural landmark for visitors of all ages.
